Lee Axford was recruited to Willis Business Law at its inception in late 2016. He started his legal practice working for a multi-national law firm in Edmonton, Alberta, first as a summer student, then as an articling student and eventually as a business law Associate. During this time, Lee gained a passion for working within the areas of corporate, commercial and real estate law. Aside from legal experience, Lee has experience working on the trading side of the securities industry.
Lee lived temporarily in the vibrant Caribbean nation of Grenada. While in Grenada he worked as a lawyer at a boutique law firm in the country’s capital city of St. George’s gaining international experience practicing primarily Business Law and also helping clients navigate the intricacies of International Intellectual Property Law. Lee, along with his wife and two young daughters, relocated to Windsor and continued his practice with William Willis, Founding Partner of Willis Law, at his former partnership.
Lee’s involvement in transactions is typically front end weighted as he specializes in drafting complex principal agreements thereby laying a solid foundation for the rest of the team to work from. Lee’s wealth of experience has enabled him to handle a myriad of corporate/commercial issues, including mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions, commercial financings and corporate restructurings. Lee is a strong proponent of practicing good corporate governance and goes out of his way to ensure that his client’s companies are properly constituted, organized and governed thereby setting the framework for their businesses to be successful.
Negotiating and drafting commercial leases also comprises an extensive area of Lee’s legal practice. He routinely goes through great lengths to ensure that his clients, whether landlords or tenants, have their rights thoroughly protected while ensuring that each lease is fair and equitable in its terms. He has acted for a wide range of public and private sector clients negotiating principal agreements for acquisitions and sales, financing transactions, and corporate reorganizations.
Lee enjoys staying involved in his community, whether sitting on boards and committees or while teaching Contracts Drafting at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law.
In his spare time, Lee enjoys spending time with his wife, Sara, and two daughters, painting, barbecuing, and cycling.
