Windsor-Essex Business Law and Taxation Lawyer

For 50 years, Doug Lawson practiced business and taxation law within the Windsor-Essex community. Doug built relationships with highly reputable organizations through both his legal practice and community involvement. He was actively involved in his community as a Senior Member of the Investment Committee for the University of Windsor, which oversees investments exceeding $650 million dollars. He was also a Commissioner of the Windsor Utilities Commission.

Doug came out of retirement and was appointed Counsel to Willis Business Law at its inception. Throughout the years, Doug earned a tremendous amount of recognition and awards. Doug held the designation of King’s Counsel (K.C.)  and in 2003, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario appointed Doug as a Member of the Order of Ontario (O.Ont.), the most prestigious official honour in the Province of Ontario, for his excellence and achievement in the practice of law. In 2008, Doug was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws by the University of Windsor.

Doug was one of Ontario’s most qualified business lawyers. His integrity, knowledge and wisdom were greatly admired by his peers. Doug was both an invaluable member of our team and a role model for the firm’s bright young lawyers and articling students. Doug provided expert advice and mentorship to our business law department.

In his spare time, Doug enjoyed travel, gardening, photography, audio books, entertaining and his family of three married children and grandchildren.

The profession, as well as his family, friends, and colleagues, miss him deeply.
